Shop / franklin sensors stud finder
Whether you're hanging pictures, putting up shelves, or preparing for a home addition, knowing the location of wall studs can be incredibly useful. A reliable stud finder can make the difference between a successful DIY project and a frustrating disaster, which is why this tool is so important.
The JAXWQ stud finder uses upgraded smart sensors to detect changes in density behind the wall and locate the center of the studs with great accuracy. This helps you avoid drilling numerous trial holes when installing TVs, shelves, coat hooks, and other items on drywall.
To use the AC scan mode, first hold the tool in the air and press the on/off button to turn it on. Select the AC mode, then press the calibration button. The decreasing bars will disappear, and a beep will confirm the calibration is complete. Release the scan button and slowly slide the tool across the wall. Mark the location where you receive the strongest AC indication, as indicated by the top arrow and steady beep. Reverse the direction and mark the spot where the display bars peak again. The midpoint of these two marks is the center of the live AC wiring.
If the tool detects live electricity over a large area, you can reduce the sensitivity by repeating the scanning process, starting at one of the previous marks. This will reset the tool to a lower sensitivity and narrow the scanning area, allowing you to more precisely identify the location of the live AC wires.
This stud finder has three scan modes. The deep scan mode can penetrate through up to two layers of drywall, reaching depths of up to 1.5 inches. This high-sensitivity mode is useful when there are extra layers of wallboard or paneling. To minimize false positives or detecting objects behind the wall that are not studs, always start with the 0.5-inch or 1-inch stud scan mode.
After detecting the center of an object, use the metal scan mode to determine if it's a wood stud, metal stud, or pipe. The JAXWQ wall detector can locate metal studs in all of its scan modes, as it's designed to detect changes in density rather than a specific material.
For safety, the wire warning detection feature indicates the presence of live, unshielded electrical wiring up to 2 inches deep, regardless of the selected scan mode.
Calibrate the tool before each use by placing it against the wall and pressing the calibration button. In stud/deep mode, calibrate it on the wall, and in AC/metal mode, calibrate it in the air. After calibration, slowly move the stud finder along the wall, being careful not to shake or lift it, which would require recalibration.
When the signal bar is full and the beep is loudest, you've found the center of an object. Use the metal scan mode to determine if it's a metal object. If not, you've located the center of a stud, and you can proceed to drilling.
This stud finder's intelligent micro-sensor chip provides accurate and rapid detection of studs, metal, and live wires, saving users time and effort. The bright, backlit LCD display and audio alerts make it easy to use, even in low-light conditions, making it a practical and thoughtful gift for DIY enthusiasts, homeowners, and professionals alike.
